Objectives of the Course

To comprehend the rules of writing and typography terminology.

Course Content

What is typography? Its purpose, its working system, its importance in terms of typography and graphic design, the historical development of typography, the birth of writing and the first alphabets. the development of print and print writing. j. typography designers who started with gutenberg and emerged as a result of the spread of the printing press. Basic terms related to typography: anatomy of the letter, typeface, typeface family, typeface weights and styles, font, size of the text. Space (range), rules to be followed in space, letter-word and line spaces, negative space, middle of eye, special cases in space, classification criteria of fonts. The main problems that arise in classification, the choice of correct font. typefaces weights and styles. typefaces

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
Definition of typography, its historical development and its place and importance in graphic design.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Basic terms used in typography, pre-Latin alphabet, development of writing and alphabet - Pictographic and ideographic writing.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Detailed examination of the letter structure and making draft studies by choosing a word.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Classification and differentiation of typefaces (light, medium, bold, black, italic etc.)
Week 5 - Theoretical
Demonstration of magiskul, minuscule writings and their effects in the text and hierarchical order with examples.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Printing texts and classification, font and font families.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Spaces, various proportions of letter spacing
Week 8 - Intermediate Exam
Text editing formats, justifications and readability. (Midterm)
Week 9 - Theoretical
Text editing formats, justifications and readability.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Recognizing typefaces and using them in the text according to their types.
Week 11 - Theoretical
make a study by playing with letters.

Discussion on faulty and correct case studies.

Wall thicknesses, serifs, italics, narrow and wide texts and features in print texts.
Week 14 - Theoretical
Letter heights in string and image, Reading and the process of reading. Roman capital, kuriv and Karl's Era miniscule writings.
