Objectives of the Course

The relationship between nutrition and metabolism, homeostasis, metabolic regulation, energy and macronutrients.

Carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism, hormone and enzyme functions, nucleic acid metabolism, metabolic regulation and integration

Learning Outcomes
1.Being able to explain the basic principles of healthy nutrition by understanding the definition and importance of nutrition.
2.To be able to define the functions of the human digestive system. Ability to explain the stages of digestion and the functions of relevant enzymes.
3.Ability to understand the basic concept of metabolism and energy requirements.
4.To be able to define the hormones that affect nutrition. Be able to explain how these hormones regulate energy balance.
5.To be able to define the structures and functions of water, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, macro and trace elements.
6.To be able to explain the concept of xenobiotics and the ways they are metabolized in the body. To understand the potential effects of xenobiotics on health.
7.Ability to describe changes in nutritional requirements in individuals exposed to radiation.
8.Ability to identify nutritional components that protect against radiation.
9.To be able to explain the biochemical mechanisms and protective effects of these components.
