Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to introduce the fundamental concepts of maritime transportation and port management, to analyze the internal and external environmental elements of the maritime sector, and to ensure comprehension of the roles and functions of institutions, businesses, and stakeholders involved in maritime transportation systems. Additionally, the course aims to classify transportation types based on cargo and vessel characteristics, to teach legal and operational processes such as maritime law and charter transactions, and to provide knowledge about port operations management practices.

Course Content

This course covers the basic concepts of maritime and port management science, and examines the internal and external environmental factors of the maritime sector at both micro and macro levels. It analyzes the businesses, customers, users, intermediary and supporting institutions within the maritime transportation system, while detailing the types of transport, cargo classifications, vessel categories, and maritime routes. In the later weeks, the course addresses legal frameworks such as maritime law and charter transactions, and explores the structure, processes, and practices of port operations management.
