Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach the basic concepts of nutrition, to explain the properties of nutrients, to provide knowledge about healthy nutrition principles, to evaluate nutritional problems in society, to explain the importance of nutrition in obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer, and to gain the ability to recognize appropriate nutritional approaches for different diseases.

Course Content

Basic concepts of nutrition, nutrients, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water, principles of healthy nutrition, nutrition problems in society, obesity and weight control, nutrition in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and hospitalized patients.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains basic concepts of nutrition and nutrients.
2.Evaluates nutrition-related problems observed in society and their effects on individual health.
3.Explains the role of nutrition in chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.
4.Compares nutritional requirements during childhood, adolescence, and older adulthood and analyzes them from a life-course perspective.
5.Relates the relationship between health and nutrition to patient safety, preventive healthcare practices, and quality of life.
