The aim of this course is to enable students to recognize emergencies that may be encountered in individuals receiving home care services and in daily life, to properly assess the scene, and to learn basic first aid approaches at a theoretical level that can be applied until healthcare professionals arrive. The course aims to ensure that students know the correct intervention steps while considering patient and injured person safety, can act calmly and consciously in emergencies, and possess basic first aid knowledge that supports patient safety in a home care setting. In this context, the course aims to raise students' awareness of assessing the physiological condition of individuals requiring home care, identifying their care needs, and creating a safe care environment.
This course begins by addressing the definition, purpose, scope, and basic principles of first aid. Students will gain knowledge about scene safety, the correct approach in emergencies, and the steps involved in assessing the patient/injured person. The course then theoretically examines basic life support (BLS), airway obstructions, and the basic intervention steps to be applied in emergencies. In addition, first aid approaches applicable in cases such as bleeding, injuries, burns, frostbite, and heatstroke are explained. Furthermore, basic interventions for musculoskeletal injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and sprains, as well as the fundamental principles of first aid applications in cases of poisoning, loss of consciousness, and seizures, are covered.
