Objectives of the Course

This course aims to convey the basic concepts used in the field of health psychology. Health-threatening behaviors (such as smoking, malnutrition, excessive alcohol consumption), the effects of stress on the disease, ways of adapting to chronic diseases and ways of coping with deadly diseases will be examined through research in the field of health psychology.

Course Content

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic study subjects of health psychology, such as illness, adaptation to illness, quality of life, health behaviors, and research methods used in the field of health psychology.

Learning Outcomes
1.Defines and explains the basic concepts, theories, and approaches in psychology (behavioral, biological, cognitive, evolutionary, social, developmental, statistical, humanistic, psychodynamic, and sociocultural).
2.Explains and compares and evaluates the basic concepts, theories and methods used in each subfield.
3.Defines the basic measurement and evaluation tools used in different subfields of psychology (clinical, developmental, cognitive, social, industrial-organizational, educational, neuropsychology, etc.) and explains their purposes.
4.Defines the basic disciplines with which psychology interacts (medicine, biology, sociology, anthropology, education, philosophy, neuroscience, statistics, etc.) and explains the contributions of these disciplines to psychology.
5.Analyses the position of psychology as a scientific discipline in Turkey, the research, practices and problems encountered in the field of psychology from past to present.
