Objectives of the Course

The aim is to train prospective health technicians who can identify the physiological, psychological, and social needs of individuals with disabilities; determine their care requirements; and plan the home care process within an ethical and legal framework.

Course Content

The course addresses the concept of disability in accordance with the World Health Organization's ICF model. Types of disability are examined through the dimensions of functional capacity and limitations in participation. The physiological, psychological, and social needs of individuals with disabilities are assessed within the framework of daily living activities, safe home care planning, family education, and ethical principles. The content is covered within the scope of Law No. 5378 on Persons with Disabilities, Law No. 2828 on Social Services, the Home Care Services Regulation, and the Patient Rights Regulation.

The concept of disability: Definitions, historical development, the biopsychosocial model, and the ICF approach.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Classification of disability: Types of physical, intellectual, sensory, and developmental disabilities.

Week 4 - Theoretical
Cognitive characteristics and theoretical foundations of the care process in individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Assessment of autism spectrum disorder and neurodevelopmental conditions from a care perspective.

Theoretical examination of communication approaches in individuals with hearing and visual impairments.
