Objectives of the Course

It is aimed to analyse the architectural remains of the Classical Period in Western Anatolia and Greece and to teach the historical events of this period and the connections between them.

Course Content

The architectural remains of Western Anatolia and Greece from the Classical period will be analysed, many of them accompanied by photographs taken on site. The effects of the historical process starting with the Ionian revolt and the Persian expedition to Greece on architectural programmes are evaluated.

Introduction to the Classical Age. The events in Anatolia after the entrance of the Persians. Causes, and brought the Ionian revolt. Introduction to architectural works of the Early Classic Period in Anatolia. Works of artists who migrated to work in the Ionian colonies of Ionia.
