Objectives of the Course

This course focuses on evolution of Anatolian sculpture, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Early Bronze Age, Middle Bronze Age and Late Bronze Age in terms of historical, social and political backgrounds through lectures.

Course Content

The first half at the semester covers the Neolithic through the Middle Bronze Age. The second half investigates the Late Bronze Age, or the Hittite Period. During the course, addition to site-specific and chronologically pertinent readings.

Learning Outcomes
1.Introduce students to the geographical nature and demographic composition of the region in ancient Anatolia
2.Identify the major stylistic developments in Anatolian sculptures from Aceramic Neolithic period through the end of the second millennium BC
3.Demonstrate on understanding of how cultures coexisting in different geopraphical regions related to one another, and how artistic styles were transmitted from one region to another.
4.Acquire knowledege and understanding of sculpture art of ancient Anatolia.
5.In the age of Assyrian Trade Colonies (first quarter of 2nd millennium BC), the effects of Anatolian-Mesopotamian commercial connections on Anatolian thought structure and art will be examined by examining the sculpture art of the period.
