Objectives of the Course

It is intended to give information about the burial cult, believes and customs of ancient people; to explain types of figures, attributes and symbols depicted on funerary steles.

Course Content

To information about ancient burial customs; to assesment through the examples of surviving about funerary cults and their reflection on funerary steles.

The development of funerary stele forms and scenes depicted on them. Single figures, two and more figures on scenes. Dexiosis, Pudicitia, Palliatus, Symposium.

Funerary Steles and their styles of Classical Period. Developments of form and design on Attic Funerary Steles.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Developments of form and design on Attic Funerary Steles. The Funerary steles in Hellenistic Period and their styles.
