Objectives of the Course

To teach the general characteristics of Roman Architecture, building techniques and masonry techniques in detail. Giving detailed information about the reorganization of the capital Rome within the framework of reconstruction policies. In addition, it is aimed to discuss the public buildings built in Anatolia during the Roman Imperial Period chronologically.

Course Content

Roman Civilization is among the important cultures of the Mediterranean geography. The year 27 BC is very important for Rome, which comes from a very deep-rooted cultural tradition. In 27 BC, when the Roman Senate gave Octavianus the title of Augustus, Rome turned into an empire. Between 27 BC and 395 AD, Rome emerged as the most important political and military power in the region. Rome attached great importance to the construction of public buildings to ensure its political authority. During the period in question, many public buildings were built in the capital Rome and the provinces. Within the scope of the course, it is planned to examine these buildings in detail.

General information about Roman Civilization, Villanova Culture, Etruscans and Roman Republican Period will be given. Political history of the Roman Imperial Period will be discussed.
