Objectives of the Course

Defining basic genetic concepts, structure and function of DNA and RNA molecule, structure of ancient DNA, DNA databases, Mendelian genetics, interactions between allelic and non-allelic genes, linkage and sex-linked inheritance, DNA repair mechanisms and mutations, population genetics and quantitative genetics

Introduction to Genetics, structure and analysis of DNA and RNA, Mendelian genetics, mutation, and population genetics.

1.To learn the history of genetics and the development process up to the present day
2.To learn ancient DNA and its uses in the field of DNA data banking
3.To understand cell division, its control, and the behavior of genetic material during division.
4.To understand the Mendelian principles which are the basis of genetics and learn how traits are transmitted from one generation to the next
5.To learn allele and gene interactions which are extensions of Mendelian genetics
6.To know sex determination and sex chromosomes
7.Can understand the mutations which are the source of genetic diversity among living organisms and their mechanisms.
8.To understand the changes in chromosome structure and number and their consequences.
9.To learn cytoplasmic inheritance
10.To know about quantitative genetics, chromosome maps, and population genetics
11.Solve problems related to the inheritance of genetic traits.
