Objectives of the Course

Teaching the structure, molecules and functions of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

Course Content

History of Cell Biology, General Structure of the Cell, Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells, Biochemical Structure of the Cell, Basic Structural Units in Biological Systems, Cell Membrane, Differentiations in the Cell Membrane, Intracellular Membrane System and Cytoplasm, Golgi Complex, Mitochondria, Peroxisome, Plastids and Chloroplast, Ribosomes, Lysosomes, Centrioles, Nucleus and Nucleolus, Chromosomes and Cell Division and cell life cycle.

Learning Outcomes
1.Knows the microscopic and biochemical structure of the cell.
2.Knows and explains in detail the structure, properties and differences of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
3.Understands and explains the structure of the cell membrane, the differentiations in the cell membrane, the intracellular membrane system and the structure of the cytoplasm.
4.Defines the structure of cell organelles and storage materials and explains their functions.
5.Knows the structure of the intracellular skeletal system and understands its importance.
6.Learns cell proliferation and cell life activities and understands their importance for the organism.
7.Researches cell-related databases, has information about current issues in cell biology, explains the information obtained verbally and in writing.
8.Discusses cell biology issues on different scientific platforms.

Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell structure, chemical components, cell diversity.

Basic structural units in biological systems; organic compounds, protein, lipid, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, enzymes and water.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Life activities in cells, structure and properties of the cell membrane, cell membrane, cell wall.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Transport of substances in the cell membrane, differentiation in the cell membrane.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Intracellular membrane system and cytoplasm, double membrane organelles (nucleus, DNA, chromatin, chromosome).
Week 7 - Theoretical
Intracellular membrane system and cytoplasm, double-membrane organelles (mitochondria, chloroplast).
Week 8 - Theoretical
Single membrane organelles; rough endoplasmic reticulum, rough endoplasmic reticulum. (Midterm Examination)

Ribosome, protein synthesis.
