Objectives of the Course

Teaching cell types, structure, proliferation and functions.

Course Content

Tools for Examining Biological Structures, Microscope and its types, Use of light microscope, Cell types, Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, General structure of plant and animal cells, Cell movements, Structure of the cell membrane and transport of substances in the cell membrane (endocytosis, exocytosis, plasmolysis, deplasmolysis), Cell differentiations occurring in the membrane (microvillus, cilia, flagella), Intracellular structures (plastid, storage substances, crystals, organelles), Nucleus, Cell division, Cell count.

Learning Outcomes
1.Gains experience and applies cell laboratory techniques.
2.Knows cell types, their properties and functions, and understands their importance for the organism.
3.Describes the structure of prokaryotic eukaryotic cells and the differences between them.
4.Understands the structure and properties of plant and animal cells and distinguishes their differences.
5.Knows the structure of cell organelles, understands their function and importance for the cell.
6.It defines the physiological functions of the cell, explains its importance, and relates all types of cells to other areas of biology.
7.He benefits from his cytology laboratory experiences in other laboratory applications of biology.
8.Makes use of databases related to cytology, obtains information about current topics, interprets and applies the information obtained, and conveys it verbally and in writing.

General structure of the animal cell, cell membrane, cell surface differentiation.

Cell movements; cytoplasmic, contractile, ameboid movement, cylindrical-flagellate movement.
Week 8 - Laboratory
Transport of substances in the cell membrane; osmosis, plasmolysis, deplasmolysis, endocytosis and exocytosis events. (Midterm)
Week 9 - Laboratory
Intracellular structures; plastids, cytoplasmic storage substances, crystals.
Week 10 - Laboratory
Cell organelles; Nucleus and nucleolus structure, centriole, chromosome.
Week 11 - Laboratory
Cell organelles; endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex, mitochondria, chloroplast, ribosome, lysosome.
Week 12 - Laboratory
Cell division; amitosis, endomitosis, mitosis.
