Objectives of the Course

The purpose of this course is to teach students the principles of general taxonomy used in plant identification, taxonomy terms, taxonomic categories, plant identification and its reasons, the materials needed for plant identification, and how to use keys for identifying plant groups belonging to Spermatophyta through practical application.

Principles and terms of general taxonomy used in plant identification; taxonomic categories; plant identification and its reasons; materials needed for plant identification; and the practical use of keys to identify plant groups belonging to Spermatophyta.

1.Knows the morphological characters used in plant identification and the terms related to them and and fills out the plant identification form
2.Knows the plant identification keys and how to use them
3.Knows the materials necessary for plant identification and the characteristics that plant samples to be collected for identification should have
4.Knows the characteristic features of gymnosperms and explains these features with examples
5.Identifies gymnosperms from various families and genera using identification keys
6.Knows the characteristic features of Angiosperms and explains these features with examples
7.Identifies angiosperms from various families at the family level using identification keys
8.Determines the type of a given fruit using a fruit identification key
9.Knows how to distinguish between monocot and dicot plants and provides examples of each
