Objectives of the Course

To reinforce the subjects of the genetics course with applications and isolation of genetic material, examination of cell divisions, giant chromosomes, Barr body, karyotype analysis, monohybrid, dihybrid crossover concepts and problems, mutations, and blood group determination.

Course Content

To teach basic genetic laboratory experiments, applications, and observations using plant, animal, and human materials.

1.Can make DNA isolation from different materials
2.To learn chromosome morphology and karyotype
3.To have information about giant chromosomes
4.To be able to define the stages of mitosis in onion root tip meristem cells
5.Describe the stages of meiosis in different materials
6.Be able to define Barr's body in epithelial cells inside the cheek
7.Be able to solve monohybrid and dihybrid crossover problems
8.To be able to distinguish structural and numerical chromosome mutations under a microscope
9.To learn the PTC test for polygenic inheritance and evaluate the results
10.Be able to count and classify own fingerprint lines, create histograms using class data
11.To be able to comprehend Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, to be able to calculate allele frequencies using the data obtained as a result of PTC test and blood group data of the class
