Objectives of the Course

To understand the general characteristics, classifications and evolutionary relationships of vertebrate animals.

Course Content

To provide information about the evolution, biological and ecological characteristics, and systematic situations of vertebrate groups. It also introduces various living species belonging to vertebrate classes.

1.to describe species concepts, the principles of of animal taxonomy, and naming of animals
2.to describe general characteristics of chordates and to recognize their classification
3.to analyse diagnostic characteristics of vertebrates that distinguish them from other groups of animals.
4.to describe vertebrate groups and their general characteristics
5.to describe changes in vertebrates during transition from auatic environment to terrestrial ecosystem
6.to describe the general characteristics of vertebrate organs and system
7.to compare the vertebrate groups in terms of organs and systems
8.to identify vertebrate species and classify them in higher units
9.to describe evolutionary relationships of vertebrates
