Objectives of the Course

To teach the general principles of plant taxonomy, taxonomic categories, naming of plants, plant identification and necessity, use of plant identification keys, classification systems of plants, evolution and differentiation of species in plants, general characteristics and classification of Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.

General principles of plant taxonomy, taxonomic categories, naming of plants, plant identification and necessity, classification systems of plants; Evolution and differentiation of species in plants; general characteristics and classification of Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.

1.Defines plants by their characteristic features, explains the necessity of naming plants using a common language and binomial nomenclature, and clarifies the rules of naming
2.Knows the concept of type in botany and explains these types with examples
3.Knows the necessity of plant identification and identifies plants using identification keys
4.Explains the classification systems of plants in the historical context with their importance
5.Knows the importance of evolutionary forces in the evolution of plants and the differentiation of species, and explains it with examples
6.Explains the general characteristics of the members of Spermatophyta and the characteristic features of the members of gymnosperms and angiosperms
7.Knows the important families, genera, and species of gymnosperms, and explains their economic importance with examples
8.Knows the important families, genera, and species of angiosperms, and explains their economic importance with examples
9.Knows the different concepts of species and explains each one with examples
10.Knows how to distinguish between monocot and dicot plants and separates them from each other
11.Classifies plants evolutionarily based on the characteristics they possess
