Objectives of the Course

To teach basic limnological terminology and concepts, features of lotic and lentic systems, water chemistry and ıts effect on aquatic organisms, organisms living in water and physical, chemical and biological factors affecting them.

Course Content

Basic limnological concepts, wetland ecosystems and their classification, concepts on aquatic organisms and their ecological interactions with environmental factors. Freshwater pollution and classification of pollution. Methods and approaches to control and prevent water pollution

3.To learn about the echological factors and reletionship between organisms in aquatic systems

5.To gain knowledge about dinamics and affecting factors of aquatic populations (plants and animals)
6.To copmrehend knowledge about the factors that effect aquatic food chain, growth and development, seasonal cycles

Lakes: creation, evolution, classification according to their origin, morphological features and lake parametres
Week 5 - Theoretical
Physical features of lakes: Light, temperature, thermal stratification, classification of lakes according to their water temperature
Week 6 - Theoretical
Physical features of lakes: water temperature and its effect on living organisms, transparency and turbidity, water movements
Week 7 - Theoretical
Chemical properties of lake waters: Dissolved gases, dissolved matter (organic, inorganic), vitamins

Ecological classification of lakes: Benthic, limnetic zones properties, planktons and their classification, Benthoz, periphyton, neuston, psammon, necton.

Limnological classification of lakes: oligothrophic, mesotrophic, eutrophic, dystrophic lakes and characteristics

Lentic systems, classification, river basins, parametres, physical and chemical properties and food chain
