Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to help students understand the relationship between biology and public health, and to enable them to learn about the biological causes of diseases, environmental risk factors, and preventive health approaches. The course aims to train individuals who can use biological knowledge to understand and solve public health issues.

Course Content

In this course, the role of biological sciences in the field of public health is addressed. Students will learn about the biological foundations of infectious and non-communicable diseases, environmental health risks, the impact of microorganisms on human health, and preventive health approaches. Additionally, current topics affecting public health, such as water, air, food safety, and zoonotic diseases, will be discussed.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Assoc. Prof. Fatma BURSALI
Learning Outcomes
1.Define the fundamental concepts of public health and explain their relationship with biology.
2.Analyze the biological foundations of infectious and non-communicable diseases.
3.Evaluate the significance of microorganisms in terms of public health.
4.Discuss the effects of environmental factors (air, water, food, chemicals) on community health.
5.Explain the biological basis of vaccination, epidemiology, and disease control programs.
6.Identify zoonotic diseases and analyze their ecological and biological determinants.
7.Acquire basic knowledge about community-based health practices and public health policies.
8.Develop biology-based solutions to public health problems
