Objectives of the Course

To provide students with practical use of their theoretical knowledge by conducting experiments on fluids, material properties, thermodynamics, kinetics, spectroscopy and polymers

Course Content

Gaining skills such as the ability to work independently, acquiring safe work in the laboratory, competence in preparing solutions, using laboratory equipment, using precision scales, ovens, mixers, producing and using distilled/pure water, preparing reports using experimental data, and accessing topics other than laboratory experiment distribution.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Assoc. Prof. Semiha KUNDAKCI
Learning Outcomes
1.Measures the flow times of solutions at different temperatures using a viscometer, knows the Poiseuille equation and calculates parameters such as Ev, A by drawing the appropriate graph.
2.Calculates the size of a molecule by drawing the necessary graphs with the help of viscometric measurements, compares with literature.
3.Knows partially miscible liquids and how mixing changes with temperature, finds the critical solution temperature and the composition of the mixture at this temperature with the help of mole fraction-temperature and mass fraction-temperature graphs, applies the Tie-Line rule.
4.Knows immiscible solvents and calculates the amount of solute distributed between them, the partition coefficient and triiodide equilibrium, knows the Nerst Distribution Law.
5.Knows the concepts related to chemical kinetics, finds the initial speeds of reactants with different concentrations, calculates the rate constant and the degree of reaction for each reactant. In addition, using the Arrhenius equation with the help of rate constants, draws the appropriate graph, finds the activation energy with the help of slope and intercept points.
6.Explains the primary salt effect, knows the Debye-Hückel law and equation, examines the primary salt effect of the reaction taking place in an acidic environment, makes the necessary calculations and interprets it.
7.Knows the definitions of polymer and monomer, recognizes different viscometers, calculates the molar mass of a polymer using the Mark-Houwink-Sakurada equation with the help of viscometric measurements. In addition, knows and draws the Huggins, Kraemer and Schulz-Blaschke equations, the parameters in these equations and their graphs.
8.Gains the ability to work in groups and independently, provides safe work acquisition in the laboratory, and gains solution preparation competence.
9.Uses laboratory devices, uses precision balance, oven, mixer, prepares a report by using experimental data, gains the ability to reach topics other than laboratory experiment distribution.
