Objectives of the Course

The main aim is to teach, evaluate and discuss the main contributions of founder sociologists who played crucial role in the formation of sociological theory; to introduce and discuss their theories.

Course Content

General Development of Sociological Theory; Early Period in Sociology; Social Contract Theory; Conservative Reaction in sociology; Saint-Simon; Auguste Comte; Elite Theory; Antonio Gramsci and Hegemony.

1.to acquire the general historical knowledge about the development of sociological theory
2.to understand the social factors that play a role in the emergence of sociological theory
3.to learn the contributions of philosophers of society to the research topics of sociology
4.to able to evaluate Comte’s understanding of methodology; to learn his classification of science and pozitivism
5.to able to evaluate the contributions of social scientists who played a key role in emergenece of sociology
