Objectives of the Course

Development or progress that historical and social issue, has studied intensively in 20 th. Century. In this context criterion of developed society was set by theorists. Main purpose of this course to make critical assesment of criterions concerning development and underdevelopment. The relation between capitalism- modernism and development has been assessed in this course. While entering 21 th. Century with globalization process it will be examined why degraded development issue and how development issue of underdeveloped countries transform integration to global economy.

Course Content

Developmental economy, developmental sociology, evolutionary development theory, modernization theory, capitalism and modernity, progression and discipline, disciplinary society. Neo-liberal/global development theory. Critics about the literature and perspective of development: dependence theory, Marxist development perspective and critics of underdevelopment. Underdevelopment and sociological dimensions. New development theories: ecological development and sustainable growth, human rights and democratic development, women’s empowerment and development.
