Objectives of the Course

In Ottoman Turkish I and Ottoman Turkish II courses, it is aimed for students who have reached a certain level in reading texts written in the Ottoman alphabet to comprehend the richness of Turkish literature and culture by providing direct contact with texts containing predominantly Persian words and structures.

Learning Outcomes
1.Increasing mastery of literary texts by knowing Arabic words and structures.
2.Teaching Arabic phrases and increasing literacy knowledge on literary and historical texts.
3.Gaining the ability to read and understand Arabic phrases
4.Gaining the ability to follow the stages of the Turkish language throughout history through texts
5.Gaining the ability to see the semantic loads, meaning changes and semantic richness of words in Turkish.

Week 1 - Theoretical
Giving basic information about the structure of Arabic and Arabic word formation, teaching roots in Arabic.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Teaching number and gender categories in Arabic nouns
Week 3 - Theoretical
Diseased letters in Arabic; Explaining how Arabic words are classified according to the status of their root letters: Aksam-ı seb'a (seven parts)
Week 4 - Theoretical
Explaining the original (root) and extra (additional) letters that make up Arabic words, how to identify the root letters of Arabic words.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Explaining the added letters in Arabic words and doing meter finding exercises.

Arabic derived words: Infinitives
Week 7 - Theoretical
Arabic simple infinitives
Week 8 - Theoretical
Arabic derived and artificial infinitives
