Objectives of the Course

The objective of the course is to recognize the situation of Tatar language among the Turkic languages and explain the basic informations about Tatar grammar.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
An overview of the Turkish world. Today, the expansion areas of Turks in the world and the geographies they live in, states, autonomy, minorities.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Classifications made on the Turkish Language: First classifications (Kashgarlı, Strahlenberg), classifications made in the 19th century (Radloff, Vambery, Berezin etc.), scientific classifications made in the 20th century (Samoyloviç, R.R. Arat, Baskakov).
Week 3 - Theoretical
Baskakov's classification and explanation of the classification of Turkish dialects accordingly. The place of Tatar Turkish in this classification.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Comparison of Turkish dialects in terms of phonetics: The most important phonetic features of the Oghuz, Karluk and Kipchak Groups and their differences from the Oghuz group.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Tatar Turkish: Information about the Republic of Tatarstan, formation of the literary language, alphabet (Cyrillic).
Week 6 - Theoretical
Phonetics of Tatar Turkish: The most important features, differences with Türkiye Turkish.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Morphology of Tatar Turkish. Noun category: Noun suffixes, Plural suffixes, Possessive suffixes, Case suffixes, Reporting, Numbers, adjectives, pronouns.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Morphology of Tatar Turkish. Verb category: Verb formation suffixes, personal suffixes used in verb conjugation, Tenses (Present, Known past, Heard past, Future and Present tenses)
Week 9 - Theoretical
Morphology of Tatar Turkish. Prepositional moods, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Transcribing a Cyrillic text from Tatar Turkish, reading it and translating it into Turkey Turkish.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Transcribing a Cyrillic text from Tatar Turkish, reading it and translating it into Turkey Turkish. Performing morphological analysis.
Week 12 - Theoretical
Transcribing a Cyrillic text from Tatar Turkish, reading it and translating it into Turkey Turkish. Performing morphological analysis.
Week 13 - Theoretical
Transcribing a Cyrillic text from Tatar Turkish, reading it and translating it into Turkey Turkish. Performing morphological analysis.
Week 14 - Theoretical
Transcribing a Cyrillic text from Tatar Turkish, reading it and translating it into Turkey Turkish. Performing morphological analysis.
