Objectives of the Course

To understand Turkish Folk Poetry within its historical process and development stages and to improve knowledge about folk poetry.

Course Content

Turkish folk poetry tradition. Ozan-baksı tradition and its characteristics in Turkish Cultural Life before Islam. What is the Khorasan esoteric tradition? The formation, transformation and current situation of the folk poetry tradition in the process. Evaluation of the products of folk poetry tradition. Explanation of the traditions of Yunus Emre, Pir Sultan Abdal, Köroğlu, Karac'oğlan. Exemplary folk poets such as Seyrani, Erzurumlu Emrah, Aşık Veysel are conveyed in a tradition-bound manner. The course will be taught with the students' shared homework content, and a participatory presentation environment will be created.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to learn new forms of knowledge and be aware of the relationships between the concepts and knowledge in Turkish folk poetry.
2.To develop the ability to recognize and browse through oral and written sources, to borrow from these sources within the scientific criteria in Turkish minstrel.
3.To be able to develop the ability to learn, analyze and interpret the types of knowledge within Turkish Folk Poetry.
4.To learn scientific methods and to apply them so as to analyze the relevant data in Turkish Folk Literature.
5.To develop types of knowledge in Turkish Folk Poetry and to gain the ability for doing a graduate degree.
6.To know Turkish Folk Poets and to establish their connection with the period in which they lived.
7.To be able to analyze the effects of the Turkish Folk Poet on the cultural world we live in.
8.To gain experience in working and producing together
9.To gain presentation experience and experience presenting a topic in front of the public
