Objectives of the Course

To provide information about the basic concepts and historical development of folklore.

Course Content

The concepts of folk and folklore. The basis, sources, field and purpose of folklore. The relationship of folklore with other sciences. The emergence and development of folklore in the history of Western thought. The development of folklore in Turkish cultural history.

Learning Outcomes
1.Learns the concepts of folk, folklore, and folk literature, and can understand the similarities and differences between these concepts.
2.Learn the emergence of folklore as a science and the stages of its development in the Western world of thought.
3.Obtain information about the development stages of folklore in Turkish culture.
4.Have knowledge about the relevance and relationships of folklore to other branches of science.
5.Learn basic information about the sources, purpose and field of study of folklore.
6.Gain knowledge about intangible cultural heritage and general information about worldwide studies on this subject.
