Objectives of the Course

Introducing the Neo-Babylonian Kingdom from the most ancient times to collapse, civilisations which flourished in Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt from the begining to the Alexander the Great’s conquest chronologically and with a historical perspective.

Course Content

Ancient Anatolian history and culture within the context of indigenous peoples of Anatolia that existed from the earliest periods to Persian invasion.

Learning Outcomes
1. to be able to explain the etymology of the name Mesopotamia which means “(land) between rivers” and to draw cultural borders of this geography.
2. to be able to explain prehistoric cultures and devolepment centers which appeared in Mesopotamia.
3. to be able to recognise Sumerian’s origin, socical structure and statecraft and their impacts to modern age.
4.to be able to compare and contrast Ancient Mesopotamian laws and their content with modern law.
5.to be able to explain interaction between Ancient Mesopotamia and Anatolia.
6.to be able to discuss birth, development and gradually collapse of Ancient Egyptian Civilisation with a historical perspective
7.to be able to answer some questions which are encountered while studying Egyptian History.
