Objectives of the Course

Following to an introduction to methodology and terminology peculiar to military history, teaching the phases that Ottoman military organization had experienced from the Early Period to Republic, treating the basic event and notions of the Modern Age European and Ottoman military history with their political, social, economical and intellectual aspects and in an interdisciplinary approach.

Course Content

Transition from the first military organizations of Ottoman Empire, yaya and müsellem units to janissary and qapıqulu systems and importance of this change, role of Timar system within the military structure, changes in the Ottoman military structure during the 17th and 18th centuries.
