Objectives of the Course

By teaching definition, objectives and the history of History as a subject, it is aimed in this course to be able to do a research using the scientific criteria; to evaluate the results of research. To learn and apply ethical rules in writing scientific research.

Course Content

In this course, the students are given information about the definition of history, its subject, historical sciences, calendars and translations. The importance and ways of accessing information during the research and examination are explained. To determine the accuracy of information, to use encyclopedic and bibliographic tools, in this way to access the resources related to the research topic, library search methods and methods of accessing the archive catalogs are explained.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be aware of the duties and responsibilities of the historian by knowing the characteristics of historical science.
2.To be able to compare the understandings of history from Antiquity to Modern Age with the Researcher-Modern History understanding.
3.To be able to reflect on their own research by learning the characteristics of scientific research, methods such as classifying the documents to be used when doing research, creating sources and knowing the way of displaying footnotes.
4.To be able to understand the locations, scopes and how to use the archives to be used in their research, and to conduct research using the information they have acquired.
5.To understand the ethics of scientific research and publication and to be able to apply this understanding to historiography and research.
