Programme Outcomes
.Students of the Department of History develop a deep understanding of the role of knowledge in the historical context, recognizing how the past shapes the present and the holistic meaning of human history. This allows historical consciousness to play a central role in understanding the identity of the individual and the continuity of social structures.
.Through the collection, analysis, interpretation and critical discussion of data that form the core of historical scholarship, students develop an epistemological understanding of historical knowledge. This process supports the development of a social scientific perspective that questions the nature of knowledge and the ways of attaining knowledge. In this way, historians are trained to prepare historiography for a holistic position that supports other areas of the social sciences.
.By developing their knowledge of foreign languages, students gain access to current research in the field of history and engage in an active dialog with the global academic community. This strengthens intercultural understanding and communication, giving them a broad perspective on the human condition, both locally and globally. Armed with this understanding, history students gain the ability to position the cultural particularities of Turkish history against other cultures.
.Students gain the ability to make objective and coherent interpretations by comparing historical events in different geographies, thus contextualizing historical phenomena. This encourages multidimensional analysis of events and enables the adoption of different perspectives while avoiding historical determinism. History students who adopt a comparative approach gain the ability to understand the uniqueness of Turkish history, which distinguishes it from other histories.
.Students acquire the ability to critically examine and evaluate the role of political, social, economic, ideological and individual factors in the development of historical events. This helps to develop a more complex and holistic understanding of historical phenomena away from one-dimensional explanations. Students of history who have acquired this understanding understand that history is a multidimensional science and that history has strong scientific qualities.
.With the ability to follow and access scientific publications and technological developments in the field of history, they learn to stay up-to-date in an ever-changing world of knowledge. This makes it possible to understand the dynamic nature of knowledge and to assess the impact of technological advances on historiography. Since the fact that the science of history is multidimensional makes it very important to have a wide variety of sources, history students understand the importance of diversity of sources in the technological pursuit of science.
.By integrating historical knowledge into different interdisciplinary studies, students gain the ability to make holistic and multidimensional analyzes. This allows students to understand the relationship between history and other disciplines such as sociology, philosophy, anthropology, etc., and to develop deeper insights in a holistic approach to the social sciences. This situation prepares history students to exhibit historical approaches that will reveal the position of history in the social science world and its importance in terms of other social science fields.
.Understanding the national and international importance of history, students develop the ability to analyze the historical background of contemporary events. This makes it possible to understand how historical events resonate in a global context and the interactions between the local and the global. In this way, history students develop a strong national and global understanding.
.The student has a deep understanding of the necessity of lifelong learning and the importance of acquiring new knowledge and skills. This ensures continuous intellectual development of the individual, increasing his/her capacity to adapt and contribute to a changing world. This opportunity gives the student the opportunity to realize that historiography is also an intellectual endeavor, and therefore, historiography is a work of consciousness and an opportunity for continuous learning and intellectual self-renewal.
.By linking world and national history, the student gains the ability to evaluate historical events in a broader perspective. This makes it easier to understand the place and historical context of national identities within global processes. This enables history students to position Turkish history among global histories and to understand the role of Turkish history in enriching global history.
.Students develop social consciousness and empathy by understanding the value of social life, social dynamics and the role of individuals in these dynamics.
