Objectives of the Course

• to provide students with an understanding of approaches towards social change • to provide students with a knowledge and understanding of discussions on modernization process in order to make them be able to inferred modern social dynamics • to provide students with necessary knowledge about globalization discussions and its appearances in order to make them to be able to substantiate recent global developments with those. • to make students be able toanalyze changes in Turkey from a sociological perspective and be able to identify their practical reflections

Course Content

Main concepts of social change; Factors that affects social change; Macro theories (organism, evolutionary, dialectic); Structural Functionalism; Conflict Approach; Micro theories (societal change approach, individualist change approach); Modernity and modernization; Modernity and its criticism; Globalization theories and discussions

1.to be able to discuss and analyze social change from a sociological perspective
2.to be able to analyze social change by obtaining enough theoretical and conceptual knowledge about social change
3.to be able to understand and explain social act and relatedly be able to identify and propose solution to urban problems
4.To be able to understand and explain the outcomes of globalization and modernization
5.To be able to understand and identify different dynamics of social change process
6.To be able to analyze and explain social changes in Turkey
