Objectives of the Course

Teaching laboratory rules and introducing glassware. Providing laboratory experience to students by showing experiments that are parallel to the subjects covered in the Basic Chemistry course.

Course Content

The general rules of working in the chemistry laboratory are taught and the student adapts to working in the chemistry laboratory. In addition, Basic Chemistry courses are supported with simple experiments based on basic chemical principles.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Assoc. Prof. Semiha KUNDAKCI
Learning Outcomes
1.Knows the reaction stoichiometry, makes the necessary calculations.
2.Knows the solution terms, concentration units, prepares solutions with solid and liquid solutes, knows the numerical properties, finds the freezing point depression value of a solution containing a non-volatile solute and realizes its connection with daily life.
3.Knows the concepts of diffusion and effusion of gases, states Graham's diffusion law.
4.Defines melting, boiling, sublimation and condensation, finds the melting and freezing points by drawing graphs.
5.Knows the concepts of titration, equivalence point, turning point, makes the relevant calculations.
6.Knows the concepts of reaction rate and chemical equilibrium and the affecting factors, applies the colorimetry method.
7.Knows the concepts of reducer-oxidant, determines the oxidation state and writes the net reaction by balancing the oxidation-reduction half-reactions.
8.Knows how to behave in a chemistry laboratory, establishes the link between theoretical and practical applications, acquires knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, gains manual dexterity and the ability to interpret, and understands the importance of group work.
