To introduce the basic principles of mathematical methods in physics.
Complex numbers, complex functions, residue theorem, calculus of variations, special functions in physics, partial differential equations.

| 1. | Must be able to calculations with complex numbers. |
| 2. | Must be able to use the residues in order to calculate the integrals. |
| 3. | Must be able to solve differential equations with power series. |
| 4. | Must be able to express the meaning and importance of the calculus of variations in physics. |
| 5. | Must be able to do the relationship between the variation and the important principles in physics such as Fermat principle. |
| 6. | Must be able to use partial differential equations in order to describe some problems in physics. |
| 7. | Must be able to solve partial differential equations. |
| 8. | Must be able to establish the relationship between the problems in different areas of physics and the special functions. |
