Objectives of the Course

To introduce the basic principles of mathematical methods in physics.

Course Content

Complex numbers, complex functions, residue theorem, calculus of variations, special functions in physics, partial differential equations.

Learning Outcomes
1.Must be able to calculations with complex numbers.
2.Must be able to use the residues in order to calculate the integrals.
3.Must be able to solve differential equations with power series.
4.Must be able to express the meaning and importance of the calculus of variations in physics.
5.Must be able to do the relationship between the variation and the important principles in physics such as Fermat principle.
6.Must be able to use partial differential equations in order to describe some problems in physics.
7.Must be able to solve partial differential equations.
8.Must be able to establish the relationship between the problems in different areas of physics and the special functions.
