Objectives of the Course

To examine painting, sculpture and architectural works produced in the Renaissance period by taking into account their historical, social and intellectual developments according to the era.

Course Content

The causes of the birth of the Renaissance in Italy are semitinized with emphasis on the historical, social and intellectual developments of the Renaissance period. Stylistic features of the Renaissance Painting Art in Italy and the works of the Renaissance artists are examined in detail.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to define what the Renaissance is, the emergence and the results of the era and the sense of art of the era
2.To be able to describe the representatives of the Renaissance art in Italy and comprehend their works.
3.To be able to explain the periods of the Renaissance Art and stylistic features of the periods and make comparison with the painting art of the previous periods.
4.To be able to describe the artists of preparation period.
5.To be able to describe the artists and stylistic features of the early period artists.
6.To be able to comprehend the High Renaissance period and features and style of this period
7.To be able to explain the works of artists of High Renaissance period in detail and make comparison between them.

Explaining the birth of the Renaissance, the causes, consequences, and characteristics of the art of the period.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Explaining the Preparation, Early and High Renaissance periods, representative artists of these.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Explaining the preparation phase, the 14th century Florence school, and the school's representative artists of this school with visuals.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Explaining 14th century Siena School and its representative artists with visuals.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Explaining the features of the Early Renaissance Painting Art in Italy (15th century), introducing the works of the representative artists of this period and scrutinizing their stylistic features.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Introducing the works of Masaccio, Fra Angelica, Antonio della Palloiuolo, representatives of the Early Renaissance Painting Art in Italy, scrutinizing their stylistic features with visuals.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Introducing the works of Paolo Uchello, Domenica Veneziano, Piero della Francesca, representatives of the Early Renaissance Painting Art in Italy, scrutinizing their stylistic features with visuals.

Introducing the works of Andrea Mantegna ve Sandro Botticelli, representatives of the Early Renaissance Painting Art in Italy, scrutinizing their stylistic features with visuals.

Explaining the High Renaissance Art in Italy, scrutinizing the works of the most important representatives of this period with visuals.

Explaining the stylistic features of Leonardo da Vinci, one of the most important representative of the High Renaissance Art in Italy and his new techniques in painting.

Explaining the works of Leonardo da Vinci with visuals
Week 12 - Theoretical
Explaining stylistic features of Raffaello Sanzio, one of the most important representative of the High Renaissance Art in Italy and examining his works with visuals.

Explaining stylistic features of Michealangelo Buonarroti, one of the most important representative of the High Renaissance Art in Italy and examining his sculptures with visuals.
