Students learn the basic building materials and construction techniques used in the construction of architectural products in Anatolia and the related terminology.
The course focuses on the fundamental construction materials and techniques of historical structures in Anatolia starting from Neolithic period. It aims to introduce main materials of construction such as stone, mudbrick, brick, timber and construction techniques of these materials, relationship between different types of materials throughout history. Emphasis is placed on monumental structures of Medival Period and Ottoman Period and understanding of the technological, sociological, and artistic influences, which determine built environment. The characteristics and properties of each construction material. The use of construction materials in relation with types of materials such as stone, brick, timber, metal. Relationship between different types of materials Chronological development of construction techniques Masonry Types.
