Objectives of the Course

It is aimed to study the works of artists and Expressionism,Surrealism, Dadaism, Cubism art movements ,developed in Europe in the 20th. century by specifying style properties

Course Content

20. century developments in painting and sculpture, and examining their relationship with their social structure. Works with representatives of the various art movements in this period, and introduced stylistic features are emphasized. Art movements of the 1960s Pop Art, New Realism, Happening, Motion and Light arts of Op Art, Kinetic Art, Late Painting Abstraction, Post-Modern Response, Photo Realism, Symbolism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, Surrealism; art movements such as abstract Expressionism will be processed.

Learning Outcomes
1. To be able to provide information about Symbolism, Fauvism, Futurism , recognize the artists, compare them with the other flows.
2. To be able to define art movements which are effective in the formation of Surrealist, Dadaist, Cubist art of painting
3.To be able to explain the stylistic features of the painters and architects in the 20th. century .
4. To be able to define the artists of art movements such as Expressionism, Surrealism, Dadaism and Cubism , make comparative analysis between countries
5. To be able to describe the occurrence of all the art movements that developed in the 20th century, the general characteristics, artists and their works, make comparison.

Emergence of the Symbolism movement and Explanation of its characteristics.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Description of the works of Symbolist artists (Maureau, Redon, Klimt, Rousseau)
Week 3 - Theoretical
Giving information about the artists with works of Fauvism and images that explain the (Matisse, Rouault, Derain
Week 4 - Theoretical
The emergence of Expressionism art movement, its characteristics ,artists and works. (Munch, Kokoscka, Kandinsky, Chagal)
Week 5 - Theoretical
The emergence of Cubism art movement, its characteristics ,artists and works.(Picasso, Braque, Boccioni).
Week 6 - Theoretical
The emergence of art movements Futurism and Dadaism, its characteristics ,artists and works.(Duchamp, Balla, Chirico, Carra, Arp, Duchamp
Week 7 - Theoretical
Midterm Exam (The influence of the Dadaism Art Movement on other art movements)
Week 8 - Theoretical
The emergence and characteristics of Late Painting Abstraction, Conceptual Art, Process Art, Happening trends are explained
Week 9 - Theoretical
The emergence of Surrealism art movement, its characteristics ,artists and works. (Ernst, Masson, Miro, Dominguez, Gorky, Matta, Delvaux, Magritte, Dali).
Week 10 - Theoretical
Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art's stylistic features ,the artists and their works are explained (Pollock, de Kooning, Warhol, Hamilton, Wesselmann, Johns)
Week 11 - Theoretical
20th Century The Art of Sculpture, stylistic features, the artists and their works are discussed (Brancusi, Pevsner, Picasso)
Week 12 - Theoretical
Explaining concepts such as Minimal Art, Land Art and Earth Art are explained.
Week 13 - Theoretical
explaining concepts like Performance and Photo Realism are told with examples.
Week 14 - Theoretical
20th Century The Art of Sculpture, stylistic features,the artists and their works are discussed(Giacometti, Gabo, Moore)
