Objectives of the Course

Providing a detailed analyze of the novels from eighteenth century regarding social, political and literary features

Course Content

In this course, the major differences between the novel in the 18th century and the literary genres of previous ages are introduced and the cultural, economic and social elements influential in the development of the genre are evaluated. The subgenres of the novel are examined with reference to the theoretical, philosophical and social context of the period.

1.studies representative novels and recognises the elements of formal realism in 18th century
2.analyses the social, philosophical, theoretical developments of this genre.
3.recognises the subgenres of the novel such as the gothic, the picaresque and the epistolary novel.
4.analyses social and political satire in the relevant novels with reference to the events and figures of the age.
5.To analyze cultural and economic reflections of the period on the novels
