Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to introduce the undergraduate students the characteristics of the Victorian novel with an emphasis on social, political, historical, economic, and literary background of the Victorian era.

Course Content

Study of characteristics of the Victorian novel, along with the historical, social, political, economic, and literary background of the nineteenth century England, Evaluation of differences between aestheticism of the late Victorian period, and didacticism, and morality of the early Victorian period.

Learning Outcomes
1.Mastery of characteristics of the Victorian novel, and build up an awareness of historical, social, political, economic and literary background of the 19th century.
2.To be able to discuss issues of class, gender, religion, and culture from the perspective of Victorian ideology with examples
3.To be able to have a fifteen-or-twenty-minute oral presentation.
4.Learning how to use a dictionary effectively.
5.Written expression of the knowledge obtained during the study of the course.
