Objectives of the Course

On completion of this module students should be able to: 1. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a range of poetry written in the said period; 2. demonstrate awareness on how the cultural and political factors conditioned the literary output; 3. demonstrate awareness about the characteristics of the movements and trace imprints of the movements from the poems studied.

Course Content

Through the works of poets such as Ivor Gurney, Teresa Hooley, Winifred Mary Letts, Gilbert Frankau, Siegfried Sassoon, Leon Gellert, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Ezra Loomis Pound, David Herbert Lawrence, Rupert John Cornford, Wystan Hugh Auden, Alun Lewi,s Gillespie Magee, Sorley MacLean, Keith Dougla,s E. J. Scovell, Edwin Mui,r Dylan Thoma,s Robert Graves, Philip Larkin and Seamus Heaney, students are expected to grasp the spirit, movements and developments of the age.
