Objectives of the Course

It aims to present the subject of Islamic law and to make the aspects that distinguish it from other branches of science more prominent in the minds. It also aims to reveal all the concepts, literature, basic issues and historical formation process related to this field as a preparation for Islamic law courses. In this context, it aims to make the students comprehend the emerging fiqh madhhabs, their emergence processes and their main points of distinction. In addition, the aim of this course is to convey to the students the importance of historical background and discussion method in current debates on related issues.

Course Content

In this course, the subject of Islamic Law and its relationship with other Islamic sciences, the concept of judgment (hukm), the subject and addressee of the judgment, the general purposes of the judgment (Maqasıdu al-Sharia), the historical formation and historical periods of Islamic law are discussed. In addition, the sources, systematics and literature of Islamic law are examined in detail. The importance of the fiqh madhhabs that emerged in this process, their founders, their literature and their differences in fiqh approach constitute the main discussion points of the course.
