Objectives of the Course

It examines the time period starting from the period of the Rashidun Caliphs and covering the Umayyad and Abbasid periods.

Course Content

It provides general information about the political, military, religious and cultural structure of the Islamic geography from the emergence of the caliphate institution after the Prophet Muhammad to the end of the Abbasid period.

Learning Outcomes
1.The events that took place during the period of the first four caliphs and the situation of the society are learned.
2.Information about the events and society of the Umayyad and Abbasid periods is obtained.
3.Information is obtained about the Andalusian Umayyad state and the states established in North Africa.
4.The new states that emerged after the weakening of the Abbasid central administrative structure are evaluated.
5.Their struggles against the Seljuks and Crusaders are evaluated.
6.The Mongols and their interactions with the Islamic world are evaluated.
7.Information is obtained about the Mamluks and their center, Cairo.
