Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to examine and analyze the Turkish economy in its historical and structural elements. By learning the history of Turkish economy, the course aims to provide a basis for interpreting the developments in the context of the world economy and making comparisons.

Course Content

Pre-Republican economic history; the beginning of economic change in Western Europe, the basic elements of the Ottoman economic order, Capitalism, the first sectors in the Ottoman economy, the economic structure from the collapse of the Ottoman Empire to the Republican period. The foundation period of the Republic of Turkey. Statism period. World War II period. Period of social transformation. Planned Development Period. 1960- 1980 period. Period of radical change in the economy in the 1980s. 1990s. Adaptation trends in the economy by sectors. The place of the state in the economy. Turkey in the world economy. Turkey with economic indicators.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to comprehend the processes of economic policy formation in Turkey and the internal and external factors affecting these processes.
2.To analyze the historical development process of the Turkish economy since the Ottoman Empire
3.To be able to distinguish the differences between the periods of the Turkish economy.
4.To be able to discuss all aspects of the transformation in Turkey in 1980 in the axis of causes and consequences.
5.To be able to distinguish forward and backward linkages between sectors by making sectoral analysis of the Turkish economy.
