In the Economics 1 course, microeconomic issues will be discussed and the economic behavior of small-scale economic units such as individuals, firms and industries will be examined.
Economics 1 examines the production and consumption decisions of economic units, including households, firms, and governments, faced with limited resources. Economics has three fundamental principles. The first principle is that individuals always strive for the best, the second principle is that economic systems tend to be in equilibrium, and the third principle is empiricism, or the reliance on evidence for analysis. This course aims to provide students with an understanding of these three fundamental principles and the logic of economic thought. Students taking this course will learn about the fundamental concepts and problems of economics, including demand and supply, perfectly competitive markets, monopoly markets, oligopoly markets, consumption theory, and production theory.
