Objectives of the Course

To teach terms related to animal nutrition. To make the students understand basic terms of feeding cage bird, aquarium fish, rodents, reptiles and monkeys. To make the students understand terms of nutritional diseases. To teach feeding strategies of wild and exotic animals. To teach relations between nutrition and animal health.

Course Content

Introduction of animals reared as pet (cage birds, aquarium fishes, rodents, reptiles and monkeys ) and digestion systems, differences about digestion system, practical feeding and considerations about feeding.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to gain basic animal nutrition information needed for scientific animal nutrition.
2.To be able to know feeding of different animal species and lead pet owners correctly.
3.To be able to give correct/practical information about nutrition of wild and exotic animals.
4.To be able to give recommendation for preventing nutrition related diseases of cage bird, aquarium fish, rodents, reptiles and monkeys.
5.To be able to gain basic animal nutrition information needed for scientific animal nutrition.

Classification of breeds, nutrition of cage birds in Turkey and World.

Introducing the nature and cage birds grown in ADU KanatGer
Week 2 - Theoretical
Digestive system anatomy and physiology of cage birds. Variations of digestive system organs according to feeding type. Physiological status of birds changing nutritional requirements.
Week 2 - Practice
Demonstration of feeds used in ADU KanatGer Group and feeding practices
Week 3 - Theoretical
Subjects (selection of cage, feeder and cage equipments and feeding behaviors) must be considered in nutrition of cage birds.

Providing information about the legal frameworks regarding the "Arrival of exotic animals brought from abroad and hosting of natural animals" by the National Parks Nature Protection Branch Directorate.
