Objectives of the Course

It aims to study the living organism and their functions; and to give updated information to students with the theoretical and practical courses

Course Content

It aims to transfer the knowledge of the students about physiology to their further clinical courses and veterinary practice.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to learn basic concepts in physiology and cell physiology
2.To be able to obtain information about the nervous system and muscle physiology
3.To be able to learn comparative blood physiology in domestic animals
4.To be able to obtain information about the comparative digestive physiology in domestic animals.
5.Have information about the special sensory system (visual, hearing, taste and smell) physiology in domestic animals

Week 1 - Theoretical
The definition of physiology, related scientific disciplines, physiology in education, differences between organic and inorganic materials, characteristics of in-animates and animates composition and characteristics of total body water, homeokinesis and biological regulation mechanisms, basic definition of the body systems and functions.
Week 1 - Practice
Introduction to physiology, explaining of materials used in physiology practice, information about general laboratory rules and biosafety applications
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Cell membrane and transport mechanisms from the biological membrane I
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Control mechanisms of cell activities, communication systems of cell &Transport mechanisms from the biological membrane II
Week 4 - Theoretical
Electrical events of the cells, resting membrane potential, action potential, structure and types of neurons, generation and conduction of a nerve impulse, peripheral nerve fiber types, degeneration and regeneration in nerve fiber, synapse and variety of synapses

Action potential and nerve conduction velocity

Synaptic neurotransmitters, synaptic plasticity, synaptic transmission, classification of receptors, adaptation of receptors, central nervous system, structure and functions of medulla spinalis, reflex arc, spinal reflexes, brain, cranial nerves

Composition and functions of blood, hematopoiesis, erythrocytes, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, anemia

Osmotic fragility and sedimentation rate of erythrocytes.

General anatomy of the digestive tract, mastication oral digestion, teeth, salivary secretion, deglutition and the esophagus, digestion in stomach

Blood groups, determination of bleeding and coagulation time.

Digestion in ruminants

Leukocyte counting.

Digestion and absorption in the small intestine, pancreas, liver and bile secretion, digestion in the large intestine, defecation, avian digestion
