Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to understand the importance of plants as both the cause and the treatment of medical conditions in humans and animals. Students will focus on chemical compounds produced by plants that make medicinal effects possible and the biological mechanisms through which these effects take place. Students will examine both beneficial and poisonous plant compounds used in medicine. Ultimately, students will learn to appreciate the role of plants and plant-derived compounds in medicine today.

Course Content

Plant cell and its structure, the chemical synthesed by plants, pathways of their synthesis and storage, the functions and effects of these chemicals in human and animals, plants containing alkaloids, gylicosides, terpens and oil,the strong and weak parts of medical plants used in Veterinary Medicine.
