Objectives of the Course

To give information about behaviour and physiologic mechanisms of behaviour in domestic animals. To teach basic concept and information of animal welfare and legal regulations. To teach the standards of care management needs of the animals under suitable conditions

Course Content

Definition of the behaviour , regulating hormones and pheromones in animal behaviour. Nutritional, sexual, social behaviour and behaviour problems of domestic animals. Laws and regulations issued related to animal welfare. Measurement of livestock welfare. Welfare of cattle, sheep, goat, horse, poultry and pigs.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to describe the laws and regulations issued related to animal welfare.
2.To be able to grasp the importance of animal welfare, be equipped to inform about these animal owners in the professional life.
3.To be able to administer for housing and manegament conditions in intensive production in animal welfare
4.To be able to consciously approach acts issues related to animal rights
5.To be able to express physiologic mechanisms of behaviour in domestic animals.
6.To be able to obtain information about social, sexual and in growing period behaviours of domestic animals.
7.To be able to identify abnormal behaviours and its physiology.
8.To have knowledge of organization, management and legislation related to veterinary medicine.
9.To use professional abilities for the contribution of developing of Veterinary knowledge for increasing the quality of animal care and public health.
10.To evaluate the physical, welfare, and nutritional condition of an animal or an animal group and to give some advice to the animal owner or raiser on this context.

Regulating hormones and pheromones in animal behaviour.

Social behaviour of domestic animals.

Sexual behaviour, foetal, maternal, neonatal and juvenile behaviours of domestic animals.

Behaviour problems of domestic animals.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Midterm exam/Basic concepts related to animal welfare.The historical process in the world and Turkey of animal welfare. Laws and regulations issued related to animal welfare.

Measurement of livestock welfare. Welfare applications in laying hens, EU contries, and Turkey.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Welfare of cattle.

Welfare of sheep, goat and pig.

Welfare of animal transport processes

Welfare criteria of pre-slaughter and slaughter
