Objectives of the Course

1. To teach the students embryonal development in birds and mammals 2. To teach the students the establishment of germ layers and the stem cell concept 3. To teach the student the formation and function of the placenta in mammals

Course Content

1. Development in birds and mammals from the fertilization of the egg and extra embryonal sacs 2. Various types of implantation and placenta formation in different animal species

1.To be able to gain a thorough understanding of the basic principles of embryonal development in birds and mammals
2.To be able to learn the stem cell concept

Fertilization and cleavage divisions

Isolation and steromicroscopic examination of oocytes from cow ovaries

In vitro fertilization and embryo transfer

Examination of frozen-thawed semen samles under the phasecontrast microscope
