Objectives of the Course

To teach the role and importance of animal production in the Turkish Economy and related problems. To teach main economic principles and the terminology. To teach demand, supply and price mechanism, business evaluation methods and profitability analysis of livestock holdings, main cost items and calculation of production costs for livestock products.

Course Content

The share of animal husbandry in Turkish Economy, and its missions. Some basic economic terms, supply and demand analysis. Choosing of the farm location. Production planning in farm business. Marketing of animal products. The cooperative system. Employment, inflation, gross national product, money.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to comprehend basic economic principles related to animal production.
2.To be able to grasp fundamentals of the national economy.
3.To be able to have knowledge of establishment and management of livestock enterprises .
4.Knows production planning and animal product marketing methods in livestock enterprises.
5.To be able to have basic knowledge to help entrepreneurs who will enter the animal production.
6.To use professional abilities for the contribution of developing of Veterinary knowledge for increasing the quality of animal care and public health.

Providing production factors in livestock Enterprises and production planning (personnel planning, wageing systems in farm business)

Stock control in farm business
Week 7 - Theoretical
Providing financial support in animal enterprises.Production planning in farm business (average, fixed and marginal revenue and costs, short and long run decision making in husbandry, main cost items and calculation of production cost in farms )

Midterm exam/Marketing of animal products (the structure of the market, study about potential consumers, advertising strategies, the importance of trademark and its formation, packaging problems)

The cooperative system (history, development of cooperatives in Turkey, its problems and basic principles of cooperative systems)

Livestock policies of Turkey (From general perspective)

Employment (types of unemployment in animal husbandry, structure of unemployment in the sector), Inflation (description, types of inflation and the negative effects of inflation on animal production)

Gross National Product (Calculation of GDP, distribution of GNP and Lorenz Curve), Money (money types, functions of money in a national economy, and items that used as money)
